Is all of your work hand made?Everything you see on my site is created in my glass studio in Loughborough.
-
Do you run courses teaching people how to work with glass?I don't currently offer courses but I've had plenty of requests. If you would be interested in knowing about future courses please drop me a line.
-
What's the difference between stained glass and fused glass?Stained glass is usually worked cold, using glass that is cut into shapes and then built into a design using lead 'came'.
-
How does glass get its lovely colours?Glass is made from silica, which starts as sand, which tends to have impurities in it giving the glass a greenish tint. That's why most early glass was that colour. Nowadays we've learned how to create a wide range of colours into glass by adding minerals and metals. For example cobalt produces a rich blue colour, whilst sulphur is used to make amber or yellow glass.
-
What type of glass do you use?I've experimented with different makes of glass over the years. Nowadays I prefer to work with Bullseye Glass, which is made in Portland, Oregon. I've found it to be the most consistent in firing, and it has a softness that makes it easier to work with. In addition Bullseye offer a wide range of colours and designs of glass, and have good technical support when needed.
